Should You Use PHP Based CMS

People who decide to start an online business will eventually need a content management system to help the out. With this tool, the person will be able to organize documents and files.

You can find such programs online. Some are Java based while others are built using .net. If you look further, you will discover that there are PHP based CMS that can also be used.

PHP based CMS are useful because when it comes to programming, you have to use certain sections of the program several times. In order to keep things organized, these are placed in folders making it look systematic.

When you look for a PHP based CMS, you have to make sure that it has features that cater to your needs. This is very practical especially when you decide to pay for it or even if this is given for free.

Since you don’t know how well it will perform, you can even download a free trial then see how it does. If this does well with your system, then you can probably start using it.

Here are a few examples of free open source PHP based CMS.

1. The first is called Drupal. This uses both PHP and MySQL platform. With it, the user is able to publish new information, manage it and maintain the website. This is also used by people who want to create blogs, forums, picture galleries, peer to peer networking and podcasting. This is licensed under the GNU general public license.

2. PHP fusion also operates using a MySQL database. There is one catch though, in order for you to use it, you need to run this using the Apache Server. The good news is, this is also free so you just have to download this into your computer.

3. PHPWCMS uses the same platform as Drupal. Its features include WYSIWYG editors, a front end CSS editor, file manager, image resizing capabilities, support for meta tags for advertising, template editor and W3C conforming front end rendering. The best part is that this can be used even if you are using Windows, Mac or Linux.

4. EzContents is another option. It also uses PHP and MySQL. Having this in your computer allows you to write create a layout then write content, manage permissions and workflow. Best of all, it can be used with or without frames.

5. phpCMS just like the others includes features such as dynamic menus, file manager, full text search engine, online editor and a lot more. This will be very useful if the person is working with flat files.

Open medium CMS is another freeware program that will require you to install PHP and MySQL in your computer. It has similar features to the others mentioned and is released under the GNU general public license.

As you can see, most of the open source PHP based CMS will only run if you have MySQL. This does not mean that this is the only one around because there are others that can be accessed using a different database.

If you are a programmer, you can even create a PHP CMS by yourself. But if there is one that can do the job for you, why bother? Someone already went to all the trouble so you can enjoy using it.
